About this project

I love modding watches. I have been doing it for almost 7 years now, and while I love my collection and all the watches I have bought and sold, there was something missing: complications. Specifically, I have adored the subsecond / small seconds movements. The Dirty Dozen watches and the Patek Phillipe Calatrava have been in my dream watch list for a decade.

This project was started so I could merge my desire for a small seconds movement and the ease of use that Seiko / Watch Modding has offered.

The Movement

Technical engineering drawing of a clock component with dimensions, cross-sectional views, and annotations in Chinese and English.

The Hongzhou 2690 movement is a small seconds movement with a few key features that makes it ideal us:

  • Hands match NH35 Dimensions (1.50 hour, .89 seconds)*

  • Overall width is less than an NH35

  • Cheap, easily sourced

This means you can use your existing stock of NH35 hands and cases!

*The hand sizes are slightly different, but I have personally tested the NH35 hands and the 0.02mm delta is small enough to not be an issue.

LUME

I worked with a high quality dial maker to get BGW9 lume on the dial and our custom hands. The lume lasts a long time and is incredibly bright in low light environments.

A wristwatch with a black strap, showing a dark face with glowing blue hour markers and hands, lying on a tiled surface in low light.
